Land Tending and Mulching in our Native Plant Hedgerow (age 12+) *Impact Week*
Come join our community to help prepare the farm for the winter.
About the Program
We are a non profit and working urban farm promoting: sustainable food practices, youth education, environmental stewardship, and community and economic development.
We nourish people at Zenger Farm, using food and farming to foster community health, connections, and strength. We steward the land and resources in Zenger Farm’s care to secure our collective future, address climate crisis, and connect people to food and nature. We respect the many ways of knowing that already exist within Zenger Farm’s community and honor traditions, cultural practices, and other forms of education that increase our collective strength.
About the Project
The Land Tending shift is dedicated to stewarding the 24 acres that make up Zenger Farm. We work with volunteers to help restore and enhance native plants in the hedge rows. In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to support the farm team through weeding, harvesting, transplanting, and bed prepping the Zenger Farm fields.
Volunteers will receive a guided tour of the Zenger Farm and a brief orientation on the various gardening activities for the day. We will work with volunteers to weed in the hedgerows and transplant new Native plants.
We have a water bottle refill station on site so we encourage folks to bring bottles to fill. We ask folks to wear close toed shoes and dress for the weather*. Ie; in hot weather, we recommend wearing hats, sunscreen, and loose-fitting clothing. In the rainy months be sure to dress in layers and preferably water-resistant clothing. If you are allergic to bees, please bring your EpiPen.
