Community Impact Week is an opportunity for friends, neighbors, coworkers, businesses, and nonprofit partners to join forces and make a meaningful difference. Through volunteer projects across our region, we're supporting the organizations and causes that help our communities flourish.

JoyRx | Children’s Cancer Association
JoyRx Caring Cabin Welcome Baskets!
JoyRx Nature provides an essential connection to the natural world. Nestled in 24 acres of surrounding woods with plentiful wildlife and a serene lake, JoyRx Nature’s Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin at the Oregon Coast provides children in treatment and their extended families with a place of peace in a calming environment.
Supplies Needed: Once a month, a group of volunteers can sign up to purchase items and build a welcome basket for one or more families staying at the Caring Cabin in the following month. These baskets are filled with toys, games, snacks, self-care items, and more in order to further support them. We encourage you to do your best assembling to make it look colorful, fun, and inviting!
Once the required items are purchased, you are welcome to build them at home and then drop them off at our office by the provided date or come in and build them at our office on that same date.
To volunteer for this opportunity, the person coordinating the basket with CCA will need to fill out a Volunteer Interest Form. If you would like to help us care for and support our families, making their time away at the Caring Cabin the best it can be, please reach out to TPaterson@JoyRx.org for more information.

Who Benefits: This volunteering opportunity provides our volunteers with a way to care for and support our children in treatment and their families. By building these baskets, you and your group are having a direct impact on these children who are staying at the Caring Cabin, bringing them joy and fun in a place where they can focus on creating memories with their loved ones.
New Avenues For Youth
New Avenues for Youth is a Portland-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing and intervening in youth homelessness by providing individualized services - from meals and counseling to job training and housing - for young people ages 9-25, with a strong focus on meeting each youth where they are and addressing their unique experiences, identities, needs, and goals. New Avenues serves the Portland metro area, including expanded services into East Multnomah County.

Starting in October, we begin collecting warm-weather gear to stock our clothing closets for the colder months.

We happily accept gently used, laundered gear, and of course, new items are always appreciated. You can purchase items from our Current Needs Amazon Wishlist, or shop at Costco, Old Navy, Ross, or anywhere else that’s convenient.
Please Note: We ask that all donated items be clean (free of stains, tears, and pet hair) and from a non-smoking household.
Who Benefits:
In the 2024–25 program year, youth visited New Avenues sites throughout the community 12,977 times. We have several locations across Multnomah County where youth access our program hubs for clothing closets and essential supplies, and our outreach team regularly connects with young people on the streets, in schools, at community centers, in parks, and other places where vulnerable youth gather. Your donations will help keep both these spaces and our outreach team well stocked with the essentials young people need.

Due to limited storage, contacting us in advance ensures we can accept your donation and get it where it’s needed most.
NW Pilot Project
At NW Pilot Project, we help connect low-income and very low-income seniors (55 and over) in Multnomah County who are capable of independent living with rental housing that is safe, permanent and affordable to them. We don’t own or manage housing. Instead, we leverage our 50 years of relationships with landlords, property managers, and community development partners to secure housing for those who are most vulnerable.
We have a staff of professional and experienced case managers and assessment specialists who help seniors at risk of losing their housing to find a more affordable place to live. We also assist individuals over 55 who are experiencing homelessness.
Each year, we help stabilize the housing of about 600 seniors.
When an older adult moves from homelessness into stable housing, they often arrive with very few personal belongings. Something as simple as a bed made with fresh sheets or a kitchen stocked with basic cookware can make a new apartment feel like home.
Can you organize a supply drive at your workplace, school, club, faith community, or with friends and family to help seniors transitioning out of homelessness? Your group can collect complete bedding or kitchen kits, or simply donate individual items from the lists below. Every item donated helps create a welcoming home and supports a senior's successful transition from homelessness to stable housing.
