Become a Coach with Girls on the Run! (age 18+) Referral

Welcome to Girls on the Run! – a life-changing non-profit program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We are now recruiting for Coaches for the 2019 spring season!

Who: Our coaches are parents, teachers and community members who volunteer their time to bring Girls on the Run. Anyone who is 18 years or older can be a coach! You do NOT need to be a runner--you just need an enthusiasm for healthy living! You do NOT need to have a daughter in the program--we have many volunteers who coach because they want to inspire girls to become strong, young women! Finally, you do NOT need to having prior coaching experience--we provide training, lesson plans and materials!

When: The 2019 spring season starts the week of March 4, culminates with the Girls on the Run 5k in May, and ends the week of May 20.

Teams meet twice a week for 10-weeks (plus one week off for spring break). Lessons take place after school and are 90 minutes in length. Coaching requires a flexible afternoon schedule as all sites meet on weekdays, generally between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

Where: Girls on the Run sites are located throughout Clark, Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties. Each school chooses its own days and times that work best for their location. You can sign up to coach at a specific school or we can place you at a site based on your preferences. You can view a map of where our 65+ teams will be practicing this spring here: https://www.girlsontherunpdx.org/Our-Locations

Benefits of Coaching with Girls on the Run:
Warm-up your spirit fingers, lace up your sneakers, and get ready to inspire a group of girls to be strong and healthy. Coaches are volunteers who facilitate the easy-to-follow, well-researched curriculum at each program site. Coaches do not have to be runners; they only need to have the desire to serve as a role model for the girls by showing positive behavior, being interactive with them, and listening attentively.

Amidst the conversation, laughter, hugs, and energy awards, you will witness transformational change in the girls and don’t be surprised if you realize that you are positively changing as well! The program may end in 10 weeks, but for our coaches and girls, the finish line is just the beginning. Ready to make a difference and encourage girls to realize their full potential? The first step is applying. Ready, Set, Coach!

Our goal is to make coaching a fun, easy, rewarding experience! We provide coaches with curriculum books that include detailed lesson plans and the materials you will need for every practice. We do the back-end work so that you can spend your time making a difference in the lives of the girls on your team!
