Enhance Habitat for Wildlife! (all ages) * STW 2017*

One of the largest threats to natural areas is invasive plants. Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge is no exception. This event will focus on removing non-native plants along the trail and within planting sites throughout the Refuge. We may also maintain the planting sites by adding tubes to planted trees in order to protect them from rodents, like voles and beaver, who like to eat them.

About Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards:
The Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards is a nonprofit organization of volunteers who support the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and whose mission it is to enhance the native species of Steigerwald Lake, Franz Lake and Pierce National Wildlife Refuges through public education, advocacy and habitat restoration.
We provide public education by staffing volunteers at Steigerwald Lake NWR who walk the trails and talk to visitors and through offsite outreach events.
We have opportunities for volunteers to do habitat restoration and trail maintenance every Monday morning and every third Saturday of the Month. This includes invasive plant removal, planting native plants, working in our nursery, mowing, and biological surveys.

Stand Together Week is the Portland Timbers, Thorns FC, and T2 citywide volunteer initiative that brings the community together to support local nonprofit organizations. The week engages hundreds of supporters, including Timbers, Thorns FC, & T2 players, coaches, ambassadors and front office staff who work with various non-profits in the community. Since 2012, Stand Together Week participants have donated 12,631 hours of service at over 163 projects focused on benefiting youth and the environment.
