Potluck in the Park Dessert Service (age 12+) *MLK Weekend 2018*
Join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to our community: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Potluck in the Park has been serving a free hot meal to anyone in need since 1991. We are a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization and we accomplish our mission of providing nutritious food and an atmosphere of community to anyone in need, because of volunteers like you!
Join us as we provide a hot meal at Waterfront Park, under the Hawthorne Bridge. 400-800 Portlanders do not go hungry on Sunday because of Potluck in the Park.
- Volunteers should check in no earlier than 1:45pm and no later than 2:15pm. The actual meal service begins promptly at 3:00pm. We even provide limited cat and dog food for companion animals!
- ?Please wear weather appropriate clothing

Teams of more than 12 people MUST email our Volunteer Coordinator, Norm Rice (firstname.lastname@example.org) to request permission to bring a large group. It is only with the EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION of the Volunteer Coordinator that teams over 12 members will be accepted.
*You will receive an email from Hands On Greater Portland if you have successfully signed up your team. You can also check or update your team sign ups through your volunteer account. Need help creating or signing up a team or are you unsure if your team has the correct number of slots reserved? Email email@example.com or call 503-200-3364.
NOTE: In order to better communicate with volunteers, Potluck in the Park regularly sends out mailers and newsletters. To facilitate this, Potluck in the Park would like to use the contact information you supply when signing up to participate at Potluck In The Park. Potluck in the Park does not release this information to any other third party. If you do NOT wish to share your contact info with Potluck in the Park, please let the registration staff know on the day and you will be excluded from our e-newsletter and other mailings.
There is ample parking immediately adjacent to our serving area under the bridge ramp. This is a paying lot, but it is as cheap as they get downtown. The Sunday day rate is $4.50. That's about what 3 hours of on-street parking would cost.
This lot is tricky to access and easy to miss. You can only access it from NORTHBOUND on Naito Parkway. You will have to go south to at least Columbia Street to get on Naito before the parking lot. The entrance is immediately after the on-ramp to the Hawthorne Bridge. If you miss that entrance there is a second one.
If for some reason this lot is full, the best option is to park in the SmartPark garage one block away at SW 1st and Jefferson. The entrance is on Jefferson between 1st and 2nd. $1.60/hr, max $5.00.
This location has difficult access for pedestrians. The safest access for able-bodied persons who can negotiate stairs is to use the sidewalk on the south side of SW Madison to go up the ramp to the bridge. Take the second stairway down, just before the bridge, directly into our area. We will have a sign at the stairway. This avoids having to cross Naito on foot.
Persons who can't use stairs will need to cross Naito either at SW Main (or points north) or SW Columbia (or points south). There are lights at both the Main and Columbia crosswalks. There are no safe pedestrian crossings between these streets.
Questions? Contact Norm Rice at firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-789-1246.
We ask that volunteers are 12 years of age or older to attend this project. Any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
If you plan to bring your children or other guests to the event, you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team. You can then sign up your team for this project.
All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian, or - if attending with an adult - have them fill one out at the event. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project: Youth Volunteer Release Form. Remember to give this to the person running check-in!
?Team Captains are only able to reserve up to 50% of the spots on any individual MLK Weekend of Service Project. Team Captains are required to provide names and email addresses for each team member (over the age of 13) in order to hold spaces on a volunteer project or they may be removed from the project. Questions? Email email@example.com
IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above.
