DeRail the Nails (age 16+) *Stand Together Week 2018*

During this project we will be meeting at our materials processing lot to process salvaged lumber from local DeConstruction sites. Using hammers crow bars, and air-powered nail "kickers", we'll get this lumber nice and ready for reuse!

Usable building materials are mindfully gleaned by our DeConstruction crew from structures that are slated to be demolished. Rather than smashing the structure to splintery wasteful bits, we go in and take the bad-boy apart piece by piece in order to salvage about 85% of the building's parts. From the site, they land at our processing lot to become rid of it's nails, screws, staples and the like. We then use this lumber in the construction of tiny homes for the houseless, as instructing material for our award winning ReFind Education Program, or for re-sale in the ReBuilding Center's store at 40-90% off market value.

About the Rebuilding Center:

The ReBuilding Center is a community building organization founded on the belief the the resources to address local challenges in a sustainable and equitable way exists right here in our own back yards. By diverting up to 8 tons of usable building materials from the waste stream on a daily basis, we connect all stakeholders in the communities' success through environmental justice, accessibility, equity and inclusion, and education and advocacy. Our Store on N Mississippi Ave is the regions largest depot for salvaged building material and, offering these materials at 40-90% of retail, is open to the public 7 days a week. We also offer affordable carpentry and home repair classes in our ReFind Education Shop, also on N. Mississippi Ave. All proceeds from the sale of salvaged material and class tickets allow us to: donate raw materials to community-based projects in need, connect grass-roots organizations with the resources they need to turn ideas into action, and provide over 3,000 volunteers opportunities in job-skill development and hands on sustainability work exposure every year.

What to know/Wear?

Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes! If you have a pair of work gloves and/or safety glasses, bring 'em!
