Meals on Wheels People: Food Production and Assembly (age 8+) *MLK Weekend 2019*

Mission: We enrich the lives of seniors, and assist them in maintaining independence, by providing nutritious food, human connections and social support. We also use our expertise and capacity to serve other nutritionally at-risk populations.

Project Description:
The Central Kitchen is a high-production, state-of-the-art industrial kitchen. In your position you will work with kitchen staff to support efficient production of meals which may include assisting with the pre-plate program for distribution into individual hot meal trays, preparing cold meal trays, dish washing, assisting with baking and salad prep. The position requires standing for the shift with a 15-minute break and a complimentary lunch included.

Event will require each individual to register through our volunteer portal. More information and join code to come once a group is confirmed!

Project Requirements:

  • You must be 8 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 14 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes - no artificial nails. We will have aprons and hairnets ready for everyone!

  • Any volunteers signing up for the event only need to register. We will do an orientation the morning of the event

  • Team Captains are only able to reserve up to 50% of the spots on any individual MLK Weekend of Service Project. Team Captains are required to provide names and email addresses for each team member (over the age of 13) in order to hold spaces on a volunteer project or they may be removed from the project.     IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed.
