Bink-A-Thon Prep Day (age 8+) *MLK Weekend 2020*

Join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to our community: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Binky Patrol is an all-volunteer national nonprofit organization making and distributing homemade blankets to vulnerable children and teens through local shelters and youth-serving agencies. A "binky" is a homemade blanket that can be sewn, knitted, crocheted or quilted. They range in size from 3 feet square up to twin bed size. Blankets will be delivered to local area shelters and clinics, to find their way to families with children in need of comfort and warmth.

Before our main event on MLK Day, there's some prep work that needs to happen. First, around 9 AM, we need two or three people to help gather all of the fabric from storage that we will be working on. We need about 12 people to help with the binky supplies to iron and cut. We have the scissors and mats and irons, so no need to bring your own. When we are done prepping all of the materials, we need help taking those supplies to Village Church on Murray in Beaverton to prep for Monday.

Wear comfy clothes. Bring water and snacks if you need them. Anyone volunteering with a big car can go with Susan to the storage at 9 AM, and then meet the group there. Either way, we'll start at 9:30 at Holy Trinity Church. Susan can also just bring it all there in a couple of loads. Project is good for a group of friends or a couple of families!

  • Volunteers must be 8 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. In the spirit of creating an atmosphere where people from all parts of our community are coming together to volunteer,

Team Captains are only able to reserve up to 50% of the spots on any individual MLK Weekend of Service Project. Questions? Email teams@handsonportland.org

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed.
