Clinic Laboratory Assistant at OUTSIDE IN (age 21+) Referral

Help support low-income community members with access to affordable, low-barrier medical care as a Laboratory Assistant volunteer at our clinic W e invite you to be part of our amazing, compassionate clinic team where you will get hands-on experience in a nonprofit medical setting. This position is ideal for those passionate about health and sciences and those with some basic medical knowledge (no direct lab experience necessary).

Lab Assistants support our clinic staff and medical providers with lab testing, documenting patient information, tracking sample data, and communicating with our team of doctors, nurses, and medical assistants. Volunteers in this role work in the center of our clinic and provide vital support to our patients and staff. No medical experience necessary! We'll train you in the lab -- this role is great entry-level experience in health care!

Volunteer Requirements: - Volunteers must be 21 or over - Volunteers must complete our online application, a brief interview, and a background check before beginning - We ask volunteers to commit to volunteering for about 6 months or 100 hours - We ask volunteers to commit to a regular, weekly 4-hour shift

Our mission is to help those experiencing houselessness or poverty move towards better health and self-sufficiency. Outside In's Medical Clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center, offering affordable and compassionate health care for people of all ages in both downtown Portland and East Portland.
Outside In is a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides Primary Care, behavioral health, benefits advocacy, and IDU health services to teens and adults in need of medical care.

Volunteers will gain the unique experience of supporting patients who often struggle with affordable access to health care. Lab volunteers will build skills in direct health care services, are trained on electronic medical records software, and are able to learn alongside experienced medical staff.

Time Commitment:

We ask for a regular commitment of one 4-hour shift per week. Shifts occur Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5pm; both morning or afternoon shifts are available.
