Be a Teammate at Every Body Athletics Today! (age 14+) Referral
Volunteers ("teammates") play such an important role at Every Body Athletics. Whether it’s modeling proper exercise techniques, working with athletes on their social skills, or building authentically inclusive friendships, EBA teammates provide our athletes with a fun and positive environment that benefits everyone. EBA wouldn’t be the same without our teammates!
During each one-hour session, EBA teammates will:
- Work out alongside our athletes, either 1-on-1 or in small groups, as you move through different exercise stations
- Model proper exercise techniques and modifications using our exercise guide
- Help athletes strengthen social-emotional skills by facilitating positive conversations and interactions
- Lead stretches, small group exercise games/activities, and conversation starters
- Provide encouragement to athletes throughout class
Throughout it all, you will be an integral part of Every Body Athletics, providing our athletes with a safe, positive, inclusive environment to gain and maintain the physical, social, and emotional skills needed in their adult lives.
EBA teammates are needed Monday - Thursday afternoon and evenings (4:00pm - 6:00pm) during our weekly inclusive exercises classes. Time commitment is very flexible and dependent on volunteers' schedules. Currently, EBA holds weekly classes in Tigard, Lake Oswego, Beaverton, and Hillsboro. We also have Zoom classes available for a virtual volunteer opportunity!
Every Body Athletics' mission is to create lasting impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of adults with disabilities through inclusive group exercise. Every Body Athletics believes that everybody is an athlete, regardless of physical or cognitive capacities. Every Body Athletics also gets its name from our focus on exercising every part of the body: physical, social, and emotional. Lastly, Every Body Athletics understands that we all benefit when everybody is included in our society and communities.
Your role as a volunteer ("teammate") is very important, as you will help ensure that these tenets are being realized during each EBA class. Being an EBA teammate comes with a passion for disability, inclusion, and acceptance, as well as the opportunity to develop positive leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills with others in the community. EBA teammates are strong disability advocates!
