Prepare School Supplies for Low-Income Students (age 12+)*Impact Week 2022*

Since opening our doors in 1999, the Schoolhouse Supplies mission remains the same: to support public education in the Portland area by providing free school supplies to students in need. We do this because we believe that every child deserves school supplies and has the right to a quality education regardless of their family’s income or racial/ethnic identity. Our ultimate goal is to level the playing field so every child has access to the tools that allow them to achieve academic success and feel confident. The program delivery model achieves additional goals through community engagement and by keeping supplies out of the waste stream.
Every pencil, notebook, and crayon that our volunteers touch will wind up in the hands of a student who otherwise would not have had the tools needed to learn.
We have an amazing amount of donations this year, and need your support to sort, process, and inventory these donations. During this service project, volunteers will help us tally donations, and prepare and inventory products for the Free Store for Teachers.
Individuals, groups, and families with youth over age 12 are welcome! Youth ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult with a volunteer waiver signed by a parent. Youth ages 16 and older are permitted to volunteer by themselves. We can’t wait for you to join our volunteer team!
Wear layers in cold weather and closed toed shoes at all times. Bring your own water bottle! Masks are optional. Free parking in front of building.

Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above.

Click "Sign Up" below to reserve your spot! Need help signing up? Call 503-200-3364 or email handson@unitedway-pdx.org
