Opportunity Details

Stewardship Crew at Hoyt Arboretum (age 6+) *Impact Week*

Hoyt Arboretum Friends brings people and trees together. We create meaningful learning experiences in a unique global tree collection that we nurture in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation.

Hoyt Arboretum is Portland, Oregon’s living museum of trees. Located in Washington Park, the Arboretum encompasses 189 ridge-top acres accessible by 12 miles of trails. More than 6,000 specimens from around the world grow here, including more than 2,000 species. To the local community, Hoyt Arboretum represents a unique setting for education, fitness and reflection. To the world, Hoyt Arboretum is a critical partner in global conservation and scientific research.

Volunteer support is incredibly important to maintaining Hoyt Arboretum’s tree collection and trail system, and it’s also a unique opportunity for volunteers to learn about and care for trees from around the world!

Volunteers can expect to participate in a variety of hands-on stewardship projects that can include invasive species removal, weeding and mulching, brush clearing, trail work, and more. Onsite training is provided.

This is an outdoor volunteer opportunity and will occur rain or shine. Please dress for the weather and be prepared to get a little dirty. Long pants and sturdy, closed-toed shoes are necessary. Bring water, snacks, and any other personal supplies you need. Gloves and tools are provided.

DIRECTIONS & TRANSIT:

Volunteers can park in the large or small parking lots by the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center. Volunteer parking passes will be provided to use in the pay-to-park lots. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Hoyt Arboretum is also accessible via the Red or Blue line to the Washington Park MAX Station followed by a 10-minute walk on the Overlook Trail.
