No Ivy Day 2023: Pier Park (age 6+) *Hands On*

Portland Parks & Recreation: Portland Parks & Recreation's mission is to provide equitable access to welcoming places, programs, and services that improve community health and our environment.

About this Opportunity
Join Friends of Pier Park and Portland Parks & Recreation to pulling Ivy and other invasive species such as Himalayan Blackberry. Weeding woodland garden and previous understory restoration plantings. Performing various disc golf infrastructure maintenance tasks such as spreading gravel on paths, repairing/ replacing tee benches. A porta-potty or bathroom is available.

Where:
Pier Park, meet at park maintenance building at corner of Bruce St and N. James St. 97203

Parking and public transit:
From Lombard St take Bruce to N James St. Park on either. Public Transit: Bus lines 75 and 4 stop at Pier Park.

Volunteers can learn more about Portland's urban ecosystems and how they are stewarded by the city and partner community groups, as well as some techniques with invasive plant management.

What to Bring and Wear
Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle and snacks. Instruction, tools, gloves, water and snacks provide. There is a porta potty or bathroom on site.

Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers of all ages are able to attend this project; any volunteer under age 12 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed.
