Opportunity Details

Join in Mulch Mania along the Springwater Trail (age 6+) *STW 2012*

Help us prep for the upcoming planting season!

We'll be partnering with the Lents Springwater Habitat Restoration Project (LSHRP) to spread mulch in preparation for native planting projects by school children from the neighborhood. LSHRP partners with Portland Parks & Recreation – City Nature East (PP&R CNE) to support kids from Kelly and Lents Elementary schools as they plant native plants and trees in this natural area—their neighborhood natural area!—in October and November.

Native plants and trees will beautify the area, provide habitat for birds and other wildlife, and provide shade cover for the fish runs in Johnson Creek. Mulch is crucial for improving the soil quality in order to increase the survival rate of the planted shrubs and trees.

Portland Parks & Recreation – City Nature East will provide: gloves, water, snacks, tools and other needed materials. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves and tools (wheelbarrows/hard rakes/pitchforks) if they prefer to use their own, but should label them clearly with your name and phone number.

Note: Volunteers age 6-12 may volunteer along with a responsible adult.
Volunteers age 13+ are welcome to volunteer on their own.
