Rose Festival Mini Float Decorating (age 14+) Referral
The Portland Rose Festival has inspired the public to gather and celebrate against a backdrop of historic external forces for 118 years, demonstrating how our community can carry on traditions and celebrate unity.
Float decorating volunteers can join us as early as Mid-Spring for mini-float decorating! Mini-floats are decorated over a few months leading up to the Grand Floral Parade so our mini-float coordinator will reach out and inquire about when you specifically would like to come volunteer. All float decorating volunteers will get the chance to get up close and personal with our floral floats and help put the finishing touches on before the big day.
Along with your crew chief, you'll help paint the base colors for each float, then apply the matching organic materials which may include seeds, beans, rice and of course LIVE FLOWERS!
No experience is necessary as your crew chief will help you flex your creative skills on anything from cutting leaves from a stem, filling water vials, pulling petals, or even slicing fruit. All float decorators must be at least 14 years old (with an accompanying adult) and sign a waiver (adult or guardian).
Volunteer shifts will start May 5-May 10 from 1pm - 6pm--we will be painting, some application of coconut on signs and other odd tasks as assigned.
For Fresh Floral Week June 2-6: we will volunteers on Wednesday June 4 from 9AM-9PM and Thursday, June 5 from 8AM-5PM
These dates and times are TENTATIVE and the Volunteer Manager will be in touch once finalized.
We welcome everyone, even if you are unable to stay for a full volunteer shift.
The Portland Rose Festival relies on thousands of dedicated volunteers to bring our events and programs to life. Right now we're in prime preparation time, and are looking for volunteers to help make Festival events a success. “ Successful communities are built on strong partnerships."
