Planting Seeds of Belonging: A Garden Work Party (age 5+) Referral

Roll up your sleeves and share in the joy of community! We’re gathering at Neahkahnie House in SE Portland for a spring garden work party—and you’re warmly invited to join us.

We'll be planting starts, mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, and power washing the patios to help get the garden ready for summer. The core members at Neahkahnie—adults with intellectual disabilities who call this place home—love spending time in the garden and look forward to teaming up with amazing volunteers like you.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just happy to help, there's a place for you here. Together, we’ll make the space bloom with beauty and belonging.

Bring your energy, wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy, and come ready to share in the joy of community!

L’Arche Portland’s mission is to build a community where people with and without intellectual disabilities share life, create home, and deepen relationships grounded in mutual care, dignity, and belonging.

When volunteers join us for the garden work party at Neahkahnie House, they’re doing more than pulling weeds or planting flowers—they're helping create a space where everyone feels at home. The garden is a cherished part of life at Neahkahnie House. It’s where the core members spend time together, soak up the sun, and find peace and joy in the beauty of nature.

By working side by side with others, volunteers live out the heart of our mission: building a community where every person is valued and included.

Volunteers will gain hands-on experience with organic gardening and home landscape care—from planting veggie starts and trimming hedges to lawn care and power washing. Whether you're new to gardening or already love working outdoors, there's something to learn and contribute.
