Create Art with Older Adults (age 16+) Referral

Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an award-winning, evidence-based, intergenerational art-making program for people living with dementia. Rose Villa is currently seeking volunteers for our OMA program beginning September 26, 2025.

Volunteers will be paired with seniors to assist them in creating art! You will build relationships, have fun, and help a senior do something new and exciting. At the end of the class series we have a huge art show and celebration fundraiser.

Through this experience you will -
• Create moments of joy for a senior living with cognitive decline.
• Gain valuable experience working with seniors.
• Be part of something that really matters, access to art for a population this is underserved in this area.
• Make friends and have fun!

We are seeking volunteers who are –
• Friendly and approachable.
• Open to learning new skills.
• Able to commit to attending training, all classes, and the art show.
• NO art experience needed.

Through your volunteerism with OMA you provide an opportunity for older adults to experience the magic of connection, creation. and community. You support them in a process, tapping into their own unique creativity and finding moments of joy and purpose.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to:
Build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art.
Develop close relationships with people living with dementia and other volunteers.
Learn how to communicate and facilitate the creative process of people living with dementia.
Obtain valuable resume experience.
A background in art is not needed to volunteer.
Volunteers will receive comprehensive training and support throughout the program.
Volunteers will also participate in a final art show at the end of the sessions.

Volunteer Time Commitment
- Training on September 20th 9--3 pm ( lunch provided)
- 7 art-making sessions 2:30 -4:30 pm on Fridays ( September 26th, October 3,10,17,24,31, November 7)
- Art Show Program Finale Thursday December 4th 6- 8 pm

Opportunity Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity.
