Prepare STEM Kits, Shift 2 (age 18+) *Impact Week 2025*

Community Impact Week, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette, powered by Hands On Greater Portland

About the Program:
United Way is home to two of Oregon’s 16 Early Learning Hubs established by the Oregon Department of Education.
Our Early Learning Multnomah and Early Learning Washington County Hubs create a more inclusive education ecosystem for children and families of all backgrounds. Hubs create a network of support and resources for families and children who need it most.
We believe every child can be successful in school, and we disrupt structural barriers that impede families of color and low-income families from realizing the education and future they and their children deserve. We develop and implement a shared strategic vision and work plan to achieve the early childhood system goals through partnerships across sectors and diverse culturally specific partners to dismantle the factors that allow inequity to flourish.
We work hard to ensure every child age six and under gets what they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond.

About the Project:
Join us in making a meaningful impact on early childhood education! This volunteer project focuses on assembling hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) kits that will be distributed to preschool-aged children from underserved families in Multnomah County. These kits are designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and foundational learning through fun, age-appropriate activities.
Volunteer Activities Include:
  • Sorting and organizing STEM materials (e.g., building blocks, books, and activity cards)
  • Packaging kits by language for safe and easy distribution
Location:
Assembly will take place at the United Way of The Columbia-Willamette, with distribution coordinated through our network of preschool partners in Multnomah County.

Pizza lunch will be provided.
