The Urban Farm Collective (Under Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Land Trust, Inc.)

http://urbanfarmcollective.com/

Urban Farm Collective (UFC) is a program of Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Land Trust (OSALT), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that accepts donated land and holds it in perpetuity as agricultural land, for the purposes of education and research into sustainable agriculture. UFC mission is to bring neighbors together to transform vacant lots into neighborhood food gardens for the purposes of education, community building and improving food security. How it works: All land, water, labor, administration and other resources are shared through our barter economy. Each hour is created equal and has a value of one barter buck (slug) per hour. Hours contributed can be exchanged for the produce that we grow together at our weekly barter market which takes place from June through October. We strive toward a closed-loop system of garden management which provides all inputs; compost, fertilizer and seed within the collective gardens, eliminating the need to enter the cash for goods economy. We are righteous scavengers!
