The trips, which take place on the Sauvie Island Organics farm and on the grounds of the 120 acre Howell Territorial Park managed by Metro, offer a rich and unique opportunity for Portland elementary school students to visit and explore a real, working farm. Volunteer Farm Educators are essential to the success of our program! Our trained educators are asked to commit to leading a minimum of 5 field trips during the season. As a Sauvie Island Center volunteer you will: Gain experience in place-based education, interpretation and gardening; Spend your days outside on beautiful Sauvie Island; Be a part of a dynamic and energetic team of educators; Taste fresh produce from Sauvie Island Organics farm; Enjoy spreading the seeds of knowledge to local youth.
